How JustOrg Design Came To Be

After 25 years as an executive director, strategy consultant, and board member, Jeanne had witnessed the same painful patterns across hundreds of justice-committed organizations. Brilliant strategies kept stalling. Talented people burned out trying to collaborate across structures that fought their efforts. She realized the problem wasn't the people or the plans—it was that nonprofit organizations aren't intentionally designed for alignment. Strategy, structure, and decision-making were disconnected, and no amount of talent or effort could overcome that.

Jeanne wanted to explore a solution—a practice that braids strategy, structure, and decision-making together—and she knew exactly who to call. Dan had spent decades on the forefront of organization structure—Agile, matrix staffing, leading large teams grappling with alignment challenges in Fortune 100 companies and Silicon Valley startups. He was ready for work that mattered. We built JOD because we'd both been solving this problem from different angles, and justice-committed nonprofits deserve a purpose-built organization design system—not a generic tool adapted from another sector.

Your success is why we built JOD—and why we keep building it.
